Elk Painting Timelapse

May 01, 2017 in Oil Painting, Painting, Process

This latest timelapse is a commission piece where the client asked me to make the source more colorful. My approach was to look at the details of the original photo to see where the color could be boosted and use solid color in those places. The background I approached as an abstract piece, tilting my easel so it was flatter allowed me to move the paint more freely and not worry about drips. Everything else is a lot of layers!

The timelapse itself is filmed  using a mounted webcam and a free computer program called VideoVelocity. This program allows you to capture video in a specified interval, I chose every 10 seconds, so you can create a timelapse that isn't a huge file. I do think this new angle is better for seeing the painting come to life, but I'm a little sad that you don't see as much of the dogs!
