Commissioning a Painted Portrait

Start by emailing photos to me at preferably with good resolution and large size. Sending more is always helpful when choosing the best photo for the portrait, however, I only work from the one photo chosen. If the portrait is to be of more than one subject, I can usually compose the painting from single photos of each. Please let me know if you have a favorite photo and I will let you know if it is suitable to work from.

Please indicate what size painting you are interested in. I will create a pre-painting composition using your photos and Adobe Photoshop. Once you OK the composition and make the payment in full, I will paint the portrait!

Please remember that portraits are completed in the order in which they were commissioned and Turnaround time will be discussed at time of ordering and usually takes a few weeks depending on the complexity of the painting. If a portrait must be completed by a certain deadline that requires changing the order of commissions, a rush fee may be applied.

The Painting

Your finished portrait will be painted on archival-quality natural cotton Gallery Wrapped Heavy Duty Canvas unless another surface is requested. My Gallery Wrapped Canvases are 1.5” deep and is ready to hang as is with the edges painted, no framing needed. However, if you wish to frame a gallery wrapped canvas there are special frames out there. If you would like a canvas that can be framed with a standard frame, thinner canvas options are available, just let me know beforehand that you would like this.

I hand-paint all my paintings using professional acrylic or oil paints and brushes. Both acrylic and oil paintings look similar due to the techniques that I use, however an acrylic painting will dry and be ready to ship much faster.

I use a varnish medium after the painting is finished as a protective coating as well as to provide an even sheen on the painting.

Pet Portrait Prices

Portrait rates are subject to change. The current price for your portrait at the time of payment will be applied to your commission.

Smaller sizes, like 8x8 or 8x10, are close up on the subject with minimal background, larger sizes have more room for entire body, toys, etc.

Some situations may incur an additional cost in the painting price, such as:
- Requests for a specific background or elements when proper customer photos are not provided.
- The need for me to fill-in incomplete and complex customer photos, such as missing body parts that have been cut off in the photograph.

- Having to fix poor resolution subjects by incorporating my own reference photos. A complex or specific composition that requires more time in the pre-painting stage than usual.

- Significant changes to a successful finished painting, especially when requests are made after you've approved the pre-painting composition.

However, any and all of these would be discussed before you are charged extra.

Pets with people will cost more, please inquire for those prices.

For just people or other subjects entirely please ask for information and price list.

Please inquire if you would like a size not shown here.

Prices do not include shipping and handling fees.

I was invited to a girlfriend’s 50th birthday party and as she is one of those who already has most everything - I just didn’t know what buy for her! Then I saw Kendra’s pet portraits and knew that it would make the perfect gift to mark such a special occasion. The gift was heartfelt and is cherished and even brought tears to her eyes. It now hangs over the fireplace in her beautiful home. I highly recommend Kendra’s paintings for all those hard to buy for friends!
